About Me
Jo has worked in the humanitarian sector for over 20 years, starting her work in El Salvador after the earthquakes in 2001, before moving to Mexico to work in civil protection in the state of Colima. From 2004 to 2017, Jo worked for the UK Government (DFID) in humanitarian responses, responding to emergencies from the Iraq War, the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004, Pakistan earthquake 2005, Middle East conflict 2006, Cyclone Sidr Bangladesh 2007, Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar 2008, Pakistan floods of 2010, Libya 2011, Syria 2012 onwards, Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines 2013, Iraq 2014, Ebola 2014-16, Yemen 2014 onwards and the Nepal earthquake of 2015.
Post DFID, Jo was Principal Humanitarian Consultant for Crown Agents helping the organisation establish their Humanitarian and Stabilisation Department and undertaking programme management of the DFID Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Programme Facility (HARP-F). In March 2019, Jo joined RedR UK as Programmes Director, rising swiftly to take on the role of CEO from August of that year. Jo successfully steered the organisation through a challenging time financially, and through the COVID crisis.
Jo is currently a freelance consultant in humanitarian affairs.
